20210511 - Run 8

We’re heading out across a skybridge towards the Central Tower.

From out here, we can see that we could get on the roof of our most recent tower, and take skybridges from there to towers to the left and to the right. We might need to do that. But we go to the Central tower first.

As we close, Caleb notices that it gets larger as we approach it. Faster than it normally would; like, it swells or grows as we go towards it.

We’re also noticing a particular tiling pattern - this was on the path through the maze, on the path we were ‘supposed’ to go down in the previous tower, and now on the path we’re on, the same tiling pattern is present. D.va says that the ‘tower is getting bigger’ effect is an arcane effect basically just giving the architect a bit more real estate. I remember reading some papers about how this can be unstable and destructive, but it’s probably stable for now as long as we don’t teleport inside the tower or otherwise do space-warping shit.

I open the large doors and head into the tower. The inside is larger than the outside - this actively nauseates me. The inside is one large room, with multiple more double  doors exiting the room. Above each double door we see a handful of little nozzles - above the double door to the left, it appears they have been used at some point to dispense acid. D.va comes in with me and is hit with the same nausea and vertigo effect.

5 exits

- exit we came in

- 2 double doors to left - “[xxx] [xxx] Gardens Pleasure Guest Quarters [xxx]” - had maybe acid trap, maybe leak of something

- 2 double doors to right - “By invitation only” - has abjuration magic

- large hole in middle of room

- 2 small doors, one on each of left and right, marked “Private” - has abjuration magic

We sit there for a really long time while both rogues are incapacitated by the space-warping effect and everyone else in the party just watches Dr. Castle puke and D.va roll around like a cat on catnip, and then Dr. Castle stops vomiting long enough to run in, open the double doors to the left, and everyone heads off to Something Something Gardens Pleasure Guest Quarters Something Tower.

We go in, Caleb goes in first. The inside is very opulent and ornate, full of gold leaf if not gold. D.va flops on a chaise longue. We’re in a room with two doors on the sides (mirrors, infinity tunnel effect). I go to one of the doors and pick the lock, and it opens into a room with lots of rich leathers and a fireplace. I find a globe - star maps - and D.va starts copying those down.

[Nyla finds something, missed what it was] in a parlor, reading unctan poetry off of a coffee table inlaid with precious stones and gold in said parlorb

Chad finds a pile of papers from the previous owner/wizard, or maybe trophies from Wizard Competitions. The previous owner was definitely A Big Deal and whatever room Chad’s in has a bunch of things that say that.

Arctilaeus Felguinor - name of wizard, we think

categories of magic: spatiotemporal, cosmological, astrological, something pertaining to a dead god (one who died when the Weave fell apart, god of doors, entrances, exits), mycology, alchemical arts, thesis on vivification of vitreous fluid and non-living tissue (sigh, some motherfucker’s always trying to ice skate uphill)

Per dates on trophies, Archtilaeus Felguinor is at least 800 years old (if he’s still alive).

We find a kitchen. We spend a bit of time here and figure out how to turn the cooktop on after I find that one kitchen drawer that you cram all the owner’s manuals in; apparently it’s powered by a link to a star and it has to be aligned perfectly to work, so it might not actually work on any other planets.

We find a musical conservatory. We can’t quite open the instrument case, so we decide not to break the glass case with priceless ancient instruments until we can do it in a slightly less incompetent way.

Near a stairwell down, we detect a smell of mushrooms. After a bunch of trying to figure out what the smell is and where it’s coming from, we found a sink garbage disposal that is a tiny gelatinous cube, and also figure out that it’s probably mushrooms.
