20210720 - Run 12

We wake up from a luxurious nap and the tabaxi butler Kartho has laid out a wonderful breakfast with a number of nice-smelling caffeinated liquids. We refresh ourselves and then head out - destination, the wizard’s quarters. Somehow.

First obstacle is a set of double doors leading out of the space-warp room. We’ve done this before, so we’ve got a routine for how to get into the big room without puking our guts out. It’s got an abjuration effect on it, so it’s probably got another arcane lock on it that we can’t defeat. I figure the door has a wood laminate over a stone core, so I try to get something that will maybe cut through the glue keeping the wood on the stone, or just go through the stone. Meanwhile Nyla is having a poetry conversation with the spiders in the alchemy lab; apparently the spiders want us to put in a good word with the wizard, which, OK, seems fine.

I manage to make a potent stone-eating acid and get it in the right place on the door to melt the latching mechanisms, allowing us to open the door.

We make our way across the skybridge and the door on the other side is also locked. D.va’s able to get them open, though, so we head in.

The first room is a sitting room, but… very messy. Kind of like this guy was extremely rich, had lots of nice stuff, but didn’t really take care of it or any of his belongings. Rich old bachelor type. Glossy black “mirror” with divination magic, cubby with some conjuration magic, a number of things surrounded by a glossy, translucent subject showing some evocation magic, and a bunch of pillows.

D.va and Nyla examine the black mirror and starts trying to figure out how to “turn it on”. Also she picks up a few of the magazines around - they’re in Old Kraskyan and have very mundane topics, but apparently they’re very valuable ancient cultural artifacts. We do, however, find a bunch of used pads of papers, but we’re able to pull rubbings off of the backs of them, including some orbital mechanics, arcane notes, and something in code.

Past the sitting room, we find a library. Shelves upon shelves of books - codices, scrolls, folded accordion books, fine vellum charts on the walls, even some weirder shit. D.va managed to find a list of references to different books, so after a bit she went on a big withdrawal spree, pulling books on a bunch of topics - arcane stuff mostly, spatiotemporal warping, astrological alignments… and then some books on mycology. We split up the books and start reading them hoping to get clues on what this guy was doing whn he put himself in sliced-up stasis.

This kind of takes a while.

Caleb I think found the key piece, reading the mycology texts. We think maybe Felginor was trying to use mycology concepts to regrow the Weave. (And given how large civilization was pre-Fall, it is statistically improbable that he was the only person doing research this weird to try to fix the Weave.)

I head out to go ask Kartho for some coffee and some supplies, and notice a staircase past a tapestry. One floor up is a bedroom - messy, lots of pricey stuff, as well as a star chart over his bed and a box that had mushrooms in it a really long time ago, and they’ve deliquesced into some kind of weird liquid. Above that  is another floor that is actually an observatory. After telling tthe party about this I go to tell Kartho of the requests.

I did ask if he wanted to clean up the Master’s chambers a bit, but even after torturing him with descriptions of the mushroom box he adhered to, presumably, Felginor’s age-old request for him to ‘stay out of my room’ or some such horseshit. It was funny though.
