20220705 - Run 28

(This is a shopping prelude to the last scene in the previous entry.)

Chad manages to come back to the party with his new ‘steed’. Well, steed summoning method. He’s got this magic stone that allows him to summon a centaur to ride. Sometimes the centaur has other people on it, and sometimes it takes longer than other times.

Caleb comes back from his time with Gina and the League with burgeoning mental powers.

We need to figure out how we’re planning to approach the Old Sinks, and what we’re going to buy for gear before heading out there.

I go to look and see if I can pick up some magic items. I’m looking for a monk’s dragonskin belt, but of course there’s none of that on the market. But fine, we have to start making contacts if we want to get anything good eventually. Available on the market are:

D.va actually casts identify instead of half-assing it and determines that it is a bag of devouring, but the vendor simply won’t believe her when she tries to help the vendor out, until they realize that D.va just surreptitiously cast identify while they were trying to sell me a used carriage or something, and then there were some bizdev noises and it was now More Expensive, so we walked out and just told Kartho that there was one of these available on the market, along with those two powerful scrolls. Can’t deal with people like that. My luck is going to be that that clown ends up with everything I want from now on in this town and I have to keep interacting with them.

Anyway, after my success at finding shit that we don’t need, D.va goes and tries to find some magic items as well.

Chad manages to talk the price down to 840gp and we all chip in.

I buy some rope and some new pitons, other people buy some shit too. We know that the people living out in or past the Old Sinks are stellar weavers but their “natural” fibres are hard to work with - they have to be rot resistant, so we can’t really just bring a bunch of linen or anything. Someone thinks about asking Nyla and the phase spiders if they want to go out there, and they are Not Interested; most of their poetry about that area rhymes with wet/dark/death. I make a trip over to Felginor’s lab and ask Felginor about interesting rot-resistant polymers or any sort of mushrooms they may not have. He talks for a while but is generally not that useful immediately; perhaps on a second trip that would work out, but not today. He did send me off with a bit of ‘mushroom starter’, though, so if I find an amateur mycologist or something.

Chad on the other hand points out that if they are that hard up for fibers, they could go for some dye. Everyone chips in 90gp, and we send Chad out to get 450gp worth of dye that we can run to the people in the Old Sinks. He comes back with 30 pounds of high-grade high-quality dye material. (Chad and I had to make up most of D.va’s 90gp share, but whatever, she basically runs a bag of holding for us, so that’s fair)

 And we head out.
